Exotic Travels to Faraway Places

Last weekend Ryan and I went and visited our friends Karen and Jesse in Idaho Falls (yes, a very faraway place) to take one of our last chances to get away without a baby. Here's Karen and Jesse:
They have a very beautiful park-like place along the Snake River called the Green Belt that we walked along and enjoyed the scenery, especially the Idaho Falls temple in the back ground.

They had a lot of geese and ducks along the river so Ryan and Jesse fed them pretzels that we had brought for a snack for the trip. Karen and I were a little more cautious and stood about 30 feet away like chickens. One of the geese kept trying to sneak around behind Ryan like it was going to steal his bag of pretzels. Fortunately Ryan is a pretty smart guy and managed to keep just one step ahead of the birds.

For some reason there is a random Japanese-looking pagoda-type maybe thing right next to the river. We did our best to look as Japanese as possible for a picture.

While we were up there, Ryan got the chance to play the greatest football video game ever created: NFL Blitz for N64. Our headless football team turned out to be the best ever, demolishing the competition 65-3.

We also went to the Tautphaus zoo in Idaho Falls, which actually turned out to be one of my favorite zoos because of its not-too-big size and very active animals. The best was two little monkeys that were total show-monkeys. They would swing around like crazy, hooting and hollering, then the white one would come down and smack against the glass, surprising everyone in the area. We learned later from a zoo keeper that the white monkey is a female, and is very protective of her mate. So, when a blond girl was standing by the glass she got defensive and smacked against it to scare her off. There were a lot of blond ladies around when we were there, so we saw it a lot. They also would pose for pictures, but Ryan was never quite fast enough to get a good one.

Our other exotic adventure was for Pioneer Day, when we went to our friends' parent's cabin in faraway Wallsburg, Utah. It is a really cute, tiny town. The city center includes city hall, a store called Jose's, and a post office. But they did have some awesome Pioneer Day activities! We went to a parade in the morning where there were tons of kids on four-wheelers and some vintage cars. Then Ryan, Trent, and Natalie went four-wheeling and later the boys shot some BB guns at pop cans full of water (which were pretty safe from any BBs actually getting into them). Here's the mountain men:
Later we went to a children's rodeo "in town" and saw about fifty kids chasing chicken and rabbits in a big dirt field. That was quite a sport. We also saw some five and six year-olds "busting mutton," aka riding sheep. I also saw the tiniest little girl doing barrel racing on a huge horse (which, when I say "racing," I mean walking the horse at a leisurely speed). Here we are, baking in the sun:

The day ended with some awesome food and a big water-gun fight with all the boys. Here's Ryan, soaking wet and ready to shoot:

All in all, we've had a pretty good couple of weekends.

4th of July Adventures!

So Ryan and I had an awesome 4th of July weekend. Ryan's family came down to Provo to celebrate with us, so the weekend was full of fun things to do. My favorite part was definitely going to the hot air balloon festival they had in the mornings. I went on Friday morning with Ryan and Natalie and Logan on Saturday morning. We had to be there at 6:30 am to see them blowing up the balloons, but it was totally worth it. It was so cool to be so close to them, feel the heat from the fire as they blew up, and see the picturesque scene as they took off one by one. Here are some of our pictures from that:

It was so cool when they were all up in the air! So colorful!

Thursday evening Ryan and I went to the Freedom Days festival where we walked around the booths and got to see some Polynesian and regular dancing. It was so fun for me to see a little dance studio perform! It definitely reminded me of my days dancing at little fairs in Mesa. Also, there was a "banana stand" selling chocolate covered frozen bananas, which are my very favorite thing to get at Disneyland. (Also, for anyone who watches Arrested Development, they had a type of banana called the Gob :) ). Sadly, the stand only took cash and we had none, but I wanted one so badly we walked down to the Wells Fargo and walked through the drive-thru ATM to get some cash. I just had to laugh at us standing in line with a bunch of cars. And the banana was totally worth it!

Another funny thing that happened at the Freedom Days festival was how many comments I got about my growing belly. I guess I haven't been out in public much lately, but I guess it's true that my belly has grown very noticeablely. Anyways, it was nice for people to say how cute it is and such. Here's the latest picture, taken Sunday at 28 weeks:

Once Ryan's family got here on Friday, the weekend really took off. Thanks so much Paul and Cindy for all the fun and everything this weekend! We went swimming at their hotel (ok, I didn't go, but Ryan and the little ones and Meagan and Jim went), got a travel system for little Schuetzler baby on the way, and got to go out to eat. On Saturday morning I took the little ones to the 4th of July parade, where I think their favorite part was watching Natalie's little baby, Logan, "dance" to the parade music. Then we went to Tucano's for lunch (thanks again!) and afterwards took a nap, which I was very grateful for.

That evening we went to the Stadium of Fire, which was way cool! It was a little better this year than last year because both Ryan and I studied up on the Jonas Brothers songs so we could sing along. I also knew almost all of the SheDaisy songs too! Woo hoo! Here's some pics from that:

Here's where Ryan was showing Dallen his best dance moves:

Here's Meagan and Maren, singing along to the Jonas Brothers:

On Sunday we had a picnic up Provo Canyon, where the highlight was Ryan and Meagan and the kids standing in the freezing stream throwing rocks back and forth. Ryan was the manager and also the heavy lifter so he made sure they did a lot productive things like build a dam and unbreak a dam. I even got in for a little while, but it was way too cold for me to stand very long!
